Arizona is a mountainous desert state valued for its warm climate and clear skies. Seasonal tourism plays a large role in the state's economy, as snowbirds from northern states flock to cities like Phoenix, Tuscon, and Scottsdale in winter months. Telecommunications, technology manufacturing, education, and copper mining are other significant factors in the state economy. Arizona is also known for its abundant golf courses, several of which are featured annually on the PGA tour. The state also draws Major League baseball teams for spring training.

Arizona's most famous attraction must be the Grand Canyon. Located in northern Arizona about 90 minutes from Flagstaff, the Grand Canyon is a mile-deep, 277-mile-long gorge carved into the desert rock by the Colorado River. Besides snapping photos at the scenic overlooks scattered throughout Grand Canyon National Park, visitors will want to take a hike or mule ride to the canyon floor, a rafting trip along the Colorado River, or a helicopter ride high above it all. Most of the tours operate out of the Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim. The Hualapai tribe operates the unique glass-bottomed Grand Canyon Skywalk on their land on the other side of the canyon. Visitors should make a point of exploring Arizona's Native American heritage, whether it be through a trip to the museums and shops of the Four Corners Region or a tour of the ancient Pueblo dwellings at Canyon de Chelly National Monument.
