Memorial Day weekend is here and with it has come long awaited summer! Yes as anyone anywhere can probably tell you, it’s been a very long and hard winter. Luckily Florida was spared the snow storms but that doesn’t mean we weren’t all still suffering in our own unique ways.
Hey by the way, remember that How To Throw The Best Summer BBQ blog post we posted a few weeks back? Well when our boss read it, he came down with a serious urge to throw one of our very own- and what better time than right before the long three day weekend to celebrate memorial day?
So today we worked hard and finished up early! Don’t worry, even with the constant scent of BBQ hitting our nostrils like waves through our open windows and the occasional open doors, we still put our customers first and made it a point to get as many order as possible shipped out. Once we finished our day, we got together and pitched our tents, pooled every available chair in our factory and offices, and then assembled the best outdoor parking lot BBQ picnic that SimplyStamps has seen to date!
Our own Brandon Jones of Jones Family BBQ supplied some of the most delicious meat in the Jacksonville area, while everyone else pitched in and brought at least one side. Needless to say with over 60 employees, there was plenty to go around! We had to set aside one of our massive double office’s just to hold all of the side dishes and desserts alone! Green bean casserole, baked beans, corn on the cob, scalloped potatoes, cornbread, deviled eggs, macaroni and cheese and so much more! Quite frankly, I don’t think any of us will be able to eat again for the rest of the weekend.
And in the spirit of togetherness and celebration, we put together a few games to work off everything we had stuffed down. Everyone wanting to brave the infamous Florida heat was split into five different teams that competed against each other in the series of games with no real reward with the exception of bragging rights which worked out just fine for everyone.
We laughed amongst ourselves, cheering on the teams, relaxing and relieved that the weekend had finally arrived. Unfortunately, there was a sudden sneak attack of water balloons kicked off with the sudden drenching of CEO Bryan Croft, luckily he had a spare 4 or 5 shirts in his car for the repeated attacks.
As the afternoon went on, passerby’s came and went, one of which remarked “I wish I worked here!”. The truth is that while we work hard, we have awesome people in charge who know that every once in a while you need a little bit of fun to break up the monotony of the life. And even though we are a big and rather successful business, we came from humble beginnings. Some of our employees have been with us for decades and have made Simply Stamps their second home. And even though not all of us are blood related, though we do have some second generation workers in our factory, we really enjoy our work family atmosphere!
