The city attracts thousands of tourists every year, courtesy of its numerous historical and recreational attractions. Mustang Island and Padre Island are home to several parks, while the USS Lexington is a floating museum which was also used as a set for the popular film Pearl Harbor (2000). The Texas Surf Museum, Texas State Aquarium and King Ranch are other notable attractions.
Corpus Christi also provides opportunities for several recreational and water activities. Fishing and waterfowl hunting in particular, are quite popular in the region. The city receives high wind speeds, creating an ideal environment for sports like wind surfing, sailing and kite boarding. Additionally, the city also offers perfect locations for seabird watching some of which include the Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge, and Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens and Nature Center.
When it comes to sports, Corpus Christi houses three sport teams; Corpus Christi Fury, Corpus Christi IceRays and Corpus Christi Hooks, which participate in the Intense Football League, North American Hockey League, and the Texas League respectively.
