Garland is located northeast of the Dallas. According to CNN, it has been ranked as 67th in the best places to live in. The city started as a small community. It wasn’t until 1850 when immigrants began arriving and settling around the area. However, two communities emerged with rivalries of their own. It was only a matter of time before the two towns were merged to form Garland. The city was named after Augustus Hill Garland, a U.S. Attorney General. Since then the city has come a long way and has expanded exponentially. The population doubled and quadrupled since the Second World War and has reached over 220,000 according to the latest consensus.
Garland is home to a variety of different industries, it also has the lowest poverty rates in the region. The economy primarily relies on numerous industries such as steel fabrication, food processing, electronics, oilfield equipment and aluminum die casting. It is also home to some of the biggest employers and businesses including Home Depot, Walmart, Atlas Copco, Raytheon, U.S. Food Service and General Dynamics.
The city has its own share of important sites and points of interests. It is home to the Plaza Theater, Patty Granville Arts Center and Pace House. It also has the Garland Landmark Museum that houses important artifacts and documents from the early 1840s. There are sixty different parks scattered around the city along with six recreation centers and over 2500 acres of park land.

Even though the city is a part of the Garland Independent School District, there is no school zoning whatsoever. This means that residents are free to choose wherever they wish to study. However, there are plenty of educational institutes that ensure the city prospers, which it has for a long time now.
The city is home to some of the most notable people on both television and film. It is home to several NFL stars including Jacob Lacey, Melvin Bullitt and Mac Percival. Most of Chuck Norris’s TV show Walker, Texas Ranger was also filmed in Garland. Many scenes from Prison Break were also shot in the city.
