A city in the State of Arizona, Glendale is situated in the Maricopa County and is just 9 miles northwest of Downtown Phoenix. Before the city laid its roots, what is now recognized as Glendale was nothing more than a dessert wasteland. However, since then the city has grown elegantly and houses more than 226,700 people.
The economy of the city has grown steadily over the years and is mainly fueled by the services industry. The main employers are the US Air Force – Luke AFB and Banner Health System, employing more than 6,300 and 2,800 residents respectively.
Glendale has 11 primary and secondary school districts serving the residents and a number of universities are also housed in the city. Some of these include the Midwestern University, Arizona State University, and Thunderbird School of Global Management among others.

Numerous historical properties can be found throughout the city, which depict the rich heritage of the city. Some of the most prominent ones include Beet Sugar Factory Building, First National Bank of Glendale and Hoghe Bunkhouse. Additionally, there are a few notable attractions, like the Gila River Arena, University of Phoenix Stadium, Manistee Ranch, Sahuaro Ranch, and not to mention the various restaurants and antique shops in Downtown Glendale. The city is also home to the Arrowhead Towne Centre Mall, which is amongst one of the most popular malls in the region.
Two major sport venues are housed in Glendale namely the Gila River Arena and the massive University of Phoenix Stadium. The stadium has already hosted the Super Bowl in 2008 and it’s going to do so again in 2015. Furthermore, the stadium is also utilized for events and college football games. Glendale also hosts several festivals and events such as the Glendale Jazz and Blues Festival, Glendale Chocolate Festival and Glendale Glitters.
