Modesto, CA Custom Rubber Stamps
Modesto, which is Spanish for ‘Modest’ has a population exceeding 200,000. Located in the Central Valley region, it has been awarded the Tree City USA on several occasions. Not only is it surrounded by rich farmlands but it ranks sixth in farm production among other counties in California. Keeping this in mind, defining the city and its economy as being modest might be an understatement. Furthermore, the city was immortalized with the release of American Graffiti in 1973 by George Lucas.
The city was originally no more than a small settlement for the railroad connecting the cities of Los Angeles and Sacramento. William C. Ralston was the founder, instead of naming the town after himself, he requested for it to be otherwise. To honor his modesty, the town was hence named Modesto. Even thought the city was founded in 1870, it wasn’t until 1884 that it was formally incorporated. The region played a vital role during the Second World War as it provided eggs, canned goods and powdered milk for the brave souls on the front. Since then the city has grown and expanded exponentially unlike any other city in the state.
The city and its economy mostly rely on its agricultural industry. In fact in 2011 alone, the agricultural production grossed over $3 billion. The industry makes effective use of the fertile lands surrounding the city. Additionally, several businesses have made Modesto their home and have come to be known as some of the biggest employers in the city. Some of these top employers and businesses include Wal-Mart, E & J Gallo Winery, Save Mart Supermarkets, Doctors Medical Center and Foster Farms Diary.
