Montgomery is a new yet old fashioned city in the state of Alabama and is situated on the Alabama River. Capital of the state, the city is named after Richard Montgomery and was officially incorporated in 1819. The city is home to numerous cultural attractions, high-tech manufacturing industries, recreational activities and universities.
Due to its central location, the city serves to be a major processing hub for crops and distribution as well for several other industries. However, in recent times the city has diversified its economy a great deal in sectors such as government, healthcare, manufacturing and business. The city is also home to a large military presence, particularly because of the Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, which is also their highest employer.
Primary and secondary education in the city is provided by Montgomery Public Schools, which consists of five high schools, ten middle schools and 32 elementary schools. Nine magnet schools, two special education centers and one alternative school also serve the residents. Montgomery also houses several higher educational institutions such as Huntingdon College, Virginia College, Troy University, Faulkner University, and the famous Alabama State University.
