Savannah, Georgia is a very old city with a plethora of history. Founded in 1733 by General James Edward Oglethorpe, Savannah was organized into efficient grids. The city has been labeled “America’s First Planned City”. The streets are wide and consist of many public squares, fountains, and parks.
Parts of the movie, Forest Gump starring Tom Hanks, was filmed in Savannah, most notably the bench Forest Gump sat on during many parts of the movie and where he stated the famous quote “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re gonna get.” The bench was located on the north side of Chippewa Square during filming of the movie.
