Culturally, St. Louis is similar to New Orleans with a mixed, rich cultural heritage. The architecture in the city particularly reflects this with many notable landmarks, like the Old Cathedral aka Basilica of St. Louis, SS Cyril and Methodius Church, Christ Church Cathedral, and the Old Courthouse aka Old St. Louis County Courthouse. The most remarkable landmark though is the Gateway Arch which was erected in honor of Thomas Jefferson and as a symbol of St. Louis’s locality as the ‘gateway to the west.’
