Saint Paul has been affectionately referred to as the ‘last city of the East’ primarily because early developers shaped the city according to Eastern standards. The city is perfect for all those who are fond of exploring it on foot. Being the capital of Minnesota, the city provides major attractions with small town manageability.
The city offers a mix of modern museums, splendid old mansions, fascinating natural wonders and exceptional shops to visit. St. Paul’s extraordinary amusement locations feature Indian Mounds Park, and Highland Park to name a few. Moreover, there are several parks and numerous regions adjoining the Mississippi River that are famous.
Several major corporations have headquartered in Saint Paul. For example, Ecolab, a famous Fortune 500 cleaning product and chemical company, was declared as one of the best places to work in the Twin Cities in 2008 by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. Saint Paul has several amateur, semi-professional and professional sports teams. The Saint Paul division of Parks and Recreation operates above 1500 sports teams. During winters, the city holds the Saint Paul Winter Carnival, a custom dating back to 1886 when Saint Paul was termed by a New York reporter as ‘another Siberia.’ This festival is enjoyed by 350,000 visitors each year and features ice sculpting, winter cuisine, treasure hunt and a spectacular ice palace. The Irish Fair of Minnesota is also a famous event which is held at the Harriet Island Pavilion area every year.
A small percentage of St.Paul’s road design is intricate owing to the curve of the Mississippi River and the hilly landscape. However, the roads are less complicated outside of downtown. Several of these roads are named instead of being numbered, thereby increasing the navigational complexity for non-natives.
