How to Make an Altered Clipboard by Monica

Welcome to Simply Stamps University! I’m excited to share with you today something quite different from previous projects. I recently created an altered clipboard using designer card stock, a custom sentiment stamp from Simply Stamps, a few embellishments and adhesive. The project was simple and it came out great!

Altered clipboards make a fun and unique decorative piece, or you can design it to be used at work as well. As artists, or even as people, it may take some of us a while to feel like we’ve really find ourselves. In our art, we try all different mediums and styles until we find what fits. It may take us months, years or even a lifetime, but it is definitely a journey to Create Yourself.

When creating my altered clipboard, I used this custom hand stamp I designed and ordered from Simply Stamps. Their selection of stamps and capability to create any design or sentiment you’d like is really what sets them apart. I paired this ‘Create Yourself’ stamp with a few pieces from Tim Holtz‘s new collection, and other miscellaneous embellishments I thought fit well.

Here’s what I did:

Before I began designing the clipboard, I removed the clip using a screw driver.

I then cut out a piece of card stock the size of my clip board and adhered it to the clip board using PPA. I used a rubber brayer to roll out any excess adhesive.

To add some color, I used some distress ink and a stencil, as well as washi tape.

I used a couple of my favorite ephemera from Tim Holtz’ new collection and adhered them on top of the card stock.

I attached a few wooden gears and some metal objects to the board to add dimension and give the project an “edge”.

I added A, B and C letters descending diagonally downward from the top center of the board.

I finalized this project with a custom ‘Create Yourself’ sentiment I ordered from Simply Stamps.

With this number of embellishments, my altered clipboard will serve best as a decorative piece. I’m thrilled with how it turned out, and I hope I’ve inspired you to venture into a new medium! Thanks for stopping by!
