Create lasting impressions of your favorite craft stamps or wooden hand stamps with rich ink colors. Our craft ink, metallic ink, and pigment ink pads come in a variety of bold color options. You can perfectly adorn your correspondence and craft projects with help from these colorful stamp inks!

Craft Stamp Ink Pads for Hand Stamping Projects

These ink pads are designed for use with traditional hand stamps that do not have a built-in ink cartridge, including wood handle stamps and European hand stamps. Pressed onto the stamp die and applied by hand, they give you direct control over ink coverage for clean, vibrant impressions on cards, envelopes, scrapbook pages, gift wrap, and more.

We carry two types of ink pads on this page. Our ink pads for hand stamps are water-based, quick-drying, and safe on skin, making them easy to use and clean up. Our craft ink pads use a permanent ink that sits on the surface of the paper rather than absorbing into it, making them ideal for glossy, coated, and non-porous surfaces — allow extra dry time, or use a heat tool to set the impression faster.

Craft Stamp Ink Pad FAQs

What is the difference between craft ink pads and ink pads for hand stamps?

Both types work with traditional hand stamps, but they behave differently once applied. Our ink pads for hand stamps are water-based, quick-drying, and easy to clean up with mild soap and water. They are safe on skin and rated for thousands of impressions, making them a good everyday option for general use on standard paper surfaces.

Craft ink pads use a permanent ink that sits on top of the surface rather than absorbing into it. They are acid-free, will not fade or bleed once set, and work well on paper, glossy, coated, and non-porous surfaces. They require extra dry time compared to water-based inks, though a heat tool speeds up the process. Each craft ink pad is approximately 3.5" x 2.25" and comes with a cover, since exposure to light can affect the pad over time.

How do I use a craft ink pad with a hand stamp?

Press the stamp face gently and evenly onto the ink pad to coat the die. Avoid rocking or grinding the stamp on the pad, which can over-ink the edges and cause bleed. Then press the stamp firmly and straight down onto your surface and lift cleanly without sliding. For larger stamp dies, tap the pad onto the stamp rather than pressing the stamp into the pad for more even coverage.

What surfaces can craft ink pads be used on?

Our craft ink pads work on paper, cardstock, glossy, coated, and non-porous surfaces. Because the ink sits on the surface rather than absorbing in, they perform especially well on coated or slick materials that water-based inks tend to bead up on. Allow extra dry time on any surface, and use a heat tool if you need the impression to set quickly. For best results on non-paper surfaces, test on a small area first.

Why is my ink pad not giving clean impressions?

The most common causes are over-inking, an uneven stamping surface, or insufficient pressure. If your impressions are blotchy or bleeding, you may have too much ink on the die — blot the stamp once on scrap paper before stamping your final surface. If the impression is faint or uneven, check that you are pressing straight down with even pressure across the whole stamp face. Always stamp on a firm, flat surface; soft or padded surfaces absorb pressure unevenly and distort results. For craft ink pads specifically, make sure the previous impression has fully dried before layering or handling.

How do I know when my ink pad needs a refill?

The clearest sign is impressions that look faint, patchy, or noticeably less vibrant than when the pad was new. The ink pad lid seals the pad between uses, so the pad itself will not dry out — it simply depletes with use over time. When you notice fading, a few drops of ink from a compatible refill bottle applied directly to the pad surface and allowed to absorb for a few minutes will restore normal impression quality.

When should I refill versus replace my ink pad?

If impressions are fading but the pad surface is still intact, a refill from a compatible refill bottle is all you need. If the foam pad surface is torn, matted down, or no longer accepting ink evenly after refilling, the pad itself should be replaced. For self-inking stamp owners, shop our replacement ink pads for the correct fit for your stamp body.

What ink do I need if I have a self-inking stamp?

The craft ink pads on this page are designed for traditional hand stamps only and are not compatible with self-inking stamps. Self-inking stamps use a built-in pad that is specific to the stamp body model. If yours is running low, you have two options: shop our replacement ink pads to swap out the pad entirely, or use a compatible refill bottle to top off the existing pad without replacing it.
