Ocean & Underwater
Fill a reef with line-art creatures: an Ocean Whale, a Cute Jellyfish and an Ocean Octopus, plus a Cute Turtle, shells and coral for the seabed. Stamp them on pool-party invitations, beach-trip journal pages or a baby-shower card. For sunshine and flip flops to go with the sea life, see Beach & Tropical, or head inland to Woodland & Forest.
Building an Under-the-Sea Scene
Ocean stamps are easiest to use in layers. Start with the seabed, Ocean Coral, Scallop Shell and Cute Starfish, along the bottom of the page. Add the large swimmers next, such as Ocean Whale, Ocean Shark or Ocean Octopus, and finish with Cute Small Fish and Tropical Fish darting between them.
Where ocean stamps work
- Pool and beach party invitations, with a Cute Turtle on the envelope.
- Summer camp and vacation journals, where a single Ocean Crab marks a day at the shore.
- Sea-themed baby showers, using the softer Cute designs.
- Classroom reading corners: a row of Cute Fish along a shelf label or bookmark.
Color and contrast
Blues and teals are the obvious choice, but coral pink, sand and deep navy keep a page from looking flat. Stamp fish in a darker shade than the water wash behind them so the outlines stay readable. Sand-colored ink along the bottom gives the seabed a sense of depth without extra drawing.
Ocean Stamp Questions
How do I stamp over a blue watercolor background?
Paint the sea first and wait until the paper is bone dry, since damp fibers blur fine lines. Ink the creatures with a waterproof or pigment ink and press evenly on a flat table. Heavier watercolor card stays flatter, and a test print on a painted offcut shows whether the ink sits cleanly.
Which ocean designs suit a baby shower?
The Cute designs, such as Cute Turtle, Cute Starfish and Cute Jellyfish, have soft faces and simple shapes that suit nursery themes. Stamp one on each invitation, add the baby's name by hand, and repeat the same design on favor tags so the whole set matches.
How can kids make an aquarium picture with these stamps?
Give each child a sheet of blue card, a washable ink pad and three or four ocean designs. Ask them to stamp the seabed first, then fish and larger animals above it. Once the ink is dry, they can draw bubbles, seaweed and waves with crayons while an adult keeps an eye on the ink.
