Planning a Year of Seasonal Stamping

A seasonal set goes a long way when you plan around three jobs for each holiday: the card, the tag and the wrap or favor bag. One design can cover all three if you change the ink color and placement.

Christmas and winter

Christmas is the busiest stamping season, so start in early November. Peppermint Candy Canes, Classic Gingerbread and Cozy Mittens work on cards and cookie tags, while the Seasonal Christmas Wreath frames a handwritten name or greeting.

Halloween and fall

For October, stamp a Haunted Ghost on each treat bag and run a Creepy Spider Web across a paper party banner. Carry the season into November with leaf and acorn designs in warm brown and orange ink for harvest invitations and Thanksgiving place cards.

Valentine's Day and spring

Pierced Arrow Heart and Heartfelt Love Letter suit love notes and classroom valentines. Hoppy Bunny Egg and Garden Tulip take over for Easter cards, egg-hunt invitations and spring birthdays.

Batch work saves time whatever the season: stamp every card front in one sitting, let them dry flat, then add greetings and color. A labeled box per holiday keeps the set ready for next year.

Holiday Stamping Tips

How do I layer two ink colors on a seasonal card?

Let the first color dry completely before stamping the second beside or over it, or the colors may smear and blend. Dye inks usually dry within moments on smooth cardstock, while pigment inks take longer. Stamp the lighter color first and the darker one last, so any overlap stays easy to read.

How should I store seasonal stamps between holidays?

Clean each stamp and let it dry fully before it goes away. Keep it out of heat, sunlight and damp spots, and avoid pressing the design against other objects. A labeled box for each season makes stamps easy to find next year, and a quick test on scrap paper confirms they are ready.

Is stamping a good party or classroom activity?

It is, because one stamp can decorate a whole stack of cards, favors or tags. Cover the table, show children how to press straight down and lift, and choose washable ink. Set aside clear counter space for drying finished pieces, and have an adult supervise and read the ink pad label.
