Stamping a Travel Journal
A travel journal comes together fastest with a small kit: one landmark or destination stamp, two or three gear stamps, and a date written by hand. Travel Tickets and Destination Sign mark the start of a trip, Road Trip Car or Airplane shows how you got there, and Travel Photos frames a spot for a printed snapshot.
Kits by trip type
- City break: Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa or Statue of Liberty, plus Camera and Taxi.
- Camping weekend: A-Frame Tent, Campfire, Hiking Boots and Trail Signs.
- Beach vacation: Beach Umbrella, Flip Flops, Sunglasses and Tropical Drink.
- Road trip: Road Trip Car, Left Turn Sign, Mountain Landscape and Luggage Bag.
Before you leave
Stamp the pages at home and travel with the journal and a pen only; ink pads are easier to manage at a desk than on a train seat. Leave space under each stamp for notes written on the road.
Travel Journal Stamping Tips
How do I stamp journal pages without ink showing through?
Thin pages are the main risk, so choose a quick-drying ink and tap lightly when inking the stamp. Test on the back page first, slip a spare sheet behind the page you are stamping, and wait for the ink to dry before you turn it.
How do I stamp a postcard so it stays readable?
Choose smooth cardstock and stamp the design before you write the message. Keep artwork clear of the address and postage area so everything stays legible, and wait until the ink is fully dry before handling or mailing. Pigment inks usually need longer to dry than dye inks.
How can I line up several stamps on a busy page?
Stamp each design on a sticky note, cut it out and arrange the cutouts on the page as stand-ins. Move them around until the layout works, then mark the corners lightly in pencil. Stamp inside those marks, and erase the pencil once the ink is dry.
