Three moai stand in a row, the center figure larger and closer than the two beside it. Each head has a heavy brow, a long nose, a firm mouth and elongated ears, and the shoulders end in a smooth base, as if rising from the earth.
The moai were carved by the Rapa Nui people from volcanic stone on Rapa Nui, also known as Easter Island, a Chilean territory in the Pacific. They are believed to represent honored ancestors.
Stamp them on a journal page from a South America trip, or let students use them on a report about Pacific cultures.
The faces rely on a few bold lines, so a single firm press is all they need.
